How to Read LODC
Reading Los Ojos de Carmen is not an easy task, trust me. I read it myself. If it is easy for you to read Los Ojos de Carmen then you need to find a harder book to read. Los Ojos de Carmen is a challenging book, but I promise you your Spanish will improve immensely. They key for me was to have a pen in my hand and a dictionary ready to go. Without that little dictionary at the back of the book reading this book would not have been possible. I wrote all the summaries while reading the chapter and that helped me to understand and remember each chapter a lot better. If you don't want to write out full summaries like I did, just writing down bullet points can help you remember the chapter better. Also please do not just read the summaries because you will get NOTHING out of reading this book. I have written summaries for each chapter in English, but that doesn't mean that I translated the book out word for word. So seriously, just read it. To get the most out of this book, just read/translate each chapter for your self. Then read the summaries so you know that you translated the chapter correctly.
I really liked reading this book, I thought it was interesting and a good story. At the beginning I had a hard time even translating the first paragraph. Then once I go to the end I was able to read some (key word some) chapters as if they were in English. So don't lose hope, if you have to translate each word in the beginning-- it does get better!! Good luck reading Los Ojos de Carmen!!
