The Preterite
If you didn't notice the endings for -ER/-IR verbs are the same.
The preterite in this chapter is used for completed actions.
For example:
"Comencé a leer sobre fotografía." meaning... "I began to read about photography."
This is an action that Daniel completed. This action is not on going. If it was the imperfect it would have said "I used to read about photography."
The Imperfect
The preterite in this chapter is used for completed actions.
For example:
"Comencé a leer sobre fotografía." meaning... "I began to read about photography."
This is an action that Daniel completed. This action is not on going. If it was the imperfect it would have said "I used to read about photography."
The Imperfect
Just like in the preterite the endings for the -ER/-IR verbs are the same.
The imperfect is used for on going actions. Typically, it is translated as "used to."
For example:
"Mi mama, en cambio, opinaba que yo debía dedicarme a lo que más me gustara" meaning.... "My mom, on the other hand, she felt that I should spend time doing what make makes me the most happy."
