All About Daniel's Ecuador
Ecuador is a country in South America that is about the same area as Nevada whose full name is the Republic of Ecuador. Its official language is Spanish, but other Amerindian (American Indian) languages are spoken. Ecuador is located in between Colombia and Peru. Ecuador's name is Spanish for equator, which runs right through the country. There are many different climates all around Ecuador. Varying from the Galapagos Islands which are pretty hot and have a dry and wet season. To the Andes mountains that have a spring time climate all year. Ecuador has a democratic government and most of the people are Roman Catholics.
Quito is the capitol of Ecuador, its full name is San Francisco de Quito. It is 9,000 feet about sea level at the base of Mount Pichincha. About 2 million people live in Quito. Quito is modernly advanced. It has movie theaters, museums, symphonic concerts, parks, and restaurants. This makes Quito one of the most culturally diverse cities. In Quito you can see a variety of different people from richer to poorer, so you can see both side of the spectrum in Quito.
The video below shows a market in Otavalo. This market is most likely just like or the same market that Daniel visits in LODC.
The Culture...
The cool thing about Ecuador is that there are multiple different cultures in one country. This is because of the many different indigenous groups in Ecuador. A number of them still use their pre-Colombian languages. The largest group of indigenous people is the Andean Quichua. Many of these groups also still keep their shamanistic traditions in this evolving world. The picture to the left is of a girl wearing her traditional face paint.
While the cities in Ecuador are still modernly advanced, they still hol d onto their roots. Otavalo is famous for its warm people, the market days (much like the one Daniel visits) are something that dates back to ancient times.
